Bountiful shut out Olympus 35-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 14, ending the Titans' 126-game consecutive scoring streak and claiming the Region 6 championship at Olympus High in Holladay.
The streak dated to 2015. It ended without drama.
Bountiful quarterback Hudson Malmrose connected with Mason Tidwell on scoring passes of 29 and 44 yards, according to the Deseret News. Viliami Vunipola's 1-yard touchdown run with 4:49 left in the first quarter opened the scoring, and the Redhawks built a 28-0 halftime lead before finishing at 35-0.
Olympus (5-5) had entered the game riding a three-game winning streak, and a victory would have forced a three-way tie atop Region 6. Instead, first-year head coach Casey Evans, an Olympus alum and former Utah Utes safety who was hired Jan. 20 according to the Holladay Journal, saw his team's historic run end on its home field on senior night.
Bountiful (7-2) won all five of its region games after splitting its first four nonregion contests. The Redhawks posted back-to-back shutouts to close the regular season.
Both teams advance to the 5A state playoffs, which begin Oct. 30, according to SI.com. Bountiful head coach Jason Freckleton told the Deseret News he hopes the win earns his team as high as the No. 4 seed. Olympus's playoff seeding will be determined over the weekend.
