Cottonwood Heights resident Post Malone drew praise from Jack Osbourne for his Grammy Awards tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne, the heavy metal icon's son said at a Salt Lake City convention panel Friday, Sept. 25.
Jack Osbourne called the performance "amazing" and said Malone "crushed it," the Deseret News reported. He described watching the tribute as a "mix of emotions," torn between pride in what the musicians pulled off and wishing his father could have seen it.
Ozzy Osbourne, the Black Sabbath frontman, died of a heart attack in July 2025 at age 76. Six months later, Post Malone led an all-star tribute at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 1 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
The group performed an abbreviated version of Black Sabbath's 1970 song "War Pigs." Guitarist Slash, Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and producer Andrew Watt joined Malone on stage. The tribute has since drawn millions of views on YouTube.
Utah roots on national TV
Malone, born Austin Richard Post, wore a camouflage hat reading "Spanish Fork Fiesta Days Rodeo" during the Grammy broadcast, as the Deseret News reported. He had made a surprise appearance at that rodeo in July 2025, signing autographs and greeting fans. Spanish Fork sits about 50 miles south of his Cottonwood Heights home.
The hat got noticed. It was one more signal of the singer-songwriter's deep attachment to the state he has called home since buying a house shortly after performing on the Bonneville Salt Flats.
During his "F-1 Trillion" tour in 2024, Malone told a crowd that moving to Utah "was one of the best things I've done in my life, besides have a baby girl," according to the Deseret News, which cited a video shared by Salt Lake country radio station The Bull.
Malone and Osbourne's history
Post Malone and Ozzy Osbourne first collaborated in 2019 on "Take What You Want," a track from Malone's album "Hollywood's Bleeding," according to Loudwire. The pair performed the song together at the American Music Awards that year. Malone later appeared on Osbourne's track "It's a Raid" from the album "Ordinary Man."
Ozzy Osbourne's last Utah performance came during his "No More Tours 2" show at Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre in 2018. Jack Osbourne's FanX appearance ran through Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Salt Palace Convention Center.
