No. 3 Olympus and No. 4 Brighton open the 5A girls soccer state tournament at home Tuesday, Oct. 13. Olympus hosts No. 14 Skyline at 7 p.m., and Brighton welcomes No. 13 Spanish Fork at 4 p.m.
Both matchups carry lopsided regular-season evidence, according to a Deseret News preview published Monday. Olympus outscored Skyline 8-1 across two meetings this fall, winning 4-1 on Aug. 27 and 4-0 on Sept. 22. Brighton closed its regular season with a 3-1 victory over Skyline and enters having lost only to Bountiful and Alta all year.
Olympus vs. Skyline
The Titans (12-4, 9-3 Region 6) are chasing the title that slipped away in 2025, when they fell 2-1 to Bountiful in the 5A championship game as the No. 2 seed. Seventh-year head coach Jamie Evans returns three all-state players: First Team forward Keira Bradley (8 goals, 7 assists), First Team defender Emma Peterson (5 goals, 1 assist) and Second Team defender Kayla Bradley (1 goal, 1 assist). The Deseret News described Peterson, a center back, as "a rarity as a goal-scoring center back."
Olympus has outscored opponents 44-19 this season, with nine players recording three or more goals. Annika Sperry (7 goals, 2 assists), Jade Cavazos (5 goals, 2 assists) and Mia Green (5 goals, 2 assists) give Evans options few 5A defenses can account for. The Titans' regular-season losses came against No. 1 Bountiful (twice) and No. 4 Brighton.
Skyline (6-10, 3-9 Region 6) enters the postseason as a heavy underdog under first-year head coach Jordyn Roth. The Eagles scored 20 goals and conceded 39 during the regular season. Still, Skyline pulled off one of the classification's biggest upsets, beating No. 7 Timpview 3-2 on Aug. 18, and closed with a 1-0 shutout of Alta on Oct. 6. Annika Rollins (4 goals) and Caroline Lipson (3 goals) lead the attack, while goalkeeper Marie Distal has posted four shutouts.
Olympus has won six consecutive matches in the series. Skyline's last victory came in 2023.
Brighton vs. Spanish Fork
Brighton (13-4, 8-4 Region 6) brings one of the 5A classification's stingiest defenses into the postseason. Goalkeeper Lilah Sligting has been credited with 8.5 shutouts, a figure reflecting shared-game credit, and the Bengals have conceded just 13 goals in 17 matches (0.8 per game).
Seventh-year head coach Sara Cowley's attack runs through Ariana Milkota, whose 15 goals and 3 assists pace the team. Savannah Zenger (7 goals, 7 assists) provides a second scoring threat, and Kailee Deeds and Charlotte Jacobsen have each added 5 goals. Brighton opened the season with five consecutive shutouts, including a 7-0 rout of Region 4 champion Hillcrest, and handed No. 1 Bountiful its only region loss, 3-0.
Spanish Fork (7-10, 5-7 Region 7) arrives in Cottonwood Heights having lost four of its final five regular-season matches. Third-year head coach Harry Roberts-Hunt's squad scored one goal or fewer in nine of 17 games. Lucia Soto (6 goals, 3 assists) is the Dons' primary threat. The teams last met in the 2023 5A quarterfinals, when Brighton won 2-0.
