Brighton's girls cross country team won the 5A Region 6 championship Tuesday, Oct. 6, scoring 54 points to edge Olympus by four at Sugar House Park.

The Bengals' victory ended a brief Olympus reign. The Titans captured the region title the prior season by a single point. Olympus coach Chris Humbert called it a program first in an October 2025 Holladay Journal preview. This time, Brighton's depth proved decisive.

Junior Bridget Smit led the Bengals with a third-place individual finish in 18:00.1. Behind her, Brighton packed five scorers between ninth and 18th place: sophomore Jane Riley (9th, 19:19.1), senior Anna Schmidt (11th, 19:20.8), freshman Brooklyn Van Slooten (14th, 19:26.9), freshman Hannah Smit (17th, 19:35.4) and junior Amy Rowley (18th, 19:40.0).

Skyline junior Hallee Sullivan won the individual race in 17:49.1, pulling away from the field after a season spent at the front of every pack she entered. Sullivan missed last season with an injury. In September, after she won the Park City Invite, Skyline coach Thomas Porter told the Deseret News, "Hallee is such a great person and athlete. Having missed last season with injury, you can see her enjoying the season differently this year."

Olympus senior Adria Favero, whom Humbert described last October as a two-time top-three state finisher, placed second in 17:54.9. Olympus freshman Emmy Favero finished fourth in 18:55.0, and junior Anna Pugh (8th, 19:12.0) and junior Anika Crawford (10th, 19:20.0) rounded out the Titans' scoring.

Skyline sophomore Lauren McMaster took fifth in 18:56.9.

The full girls team standings, per the Deseret News: Brighton 54, Olympus 58, Viewmont 69, Skyline 86, Woods Cross 109, Bountiful 136 and Alta 190.

On the boys side, Viewmont won the team title with 34 points. Brighton placed third with 65 points, led by junior Whittaker Bettis, who finished second individually in 15:39.9. Skyline was fourth at 95, with junior Landon Lyman placing ninth in 16:18.5 and freshman Christoph Blankenau 18th in 16:52.5. Olympus finished sixth with 161 points.

All three area programs are set to compete at the 5A Divisional meet Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Lakeside Park in Orem. Qualifiers from that race will head to the 5A state championship Wednesday, Oct. 28, back at Sugar House Park.
