Auntie Rae's Sweets and Tea Parties operates out of a home at 4704 S. Holladay Blvd. where five generations of the same family once lived.

Owner Raelynn Potts runs the tea-party venue and bakery inside the former Howard family home, offering dine-in, takeout and reservation-only tea service. The business has won multiple local awards, including 2018 and 2019 Best of Holladay.

Fox 13's Good Day Utah first reported on the shop on Oct. 6, bringing along members of the Howard family who grew up in the house. Kathleen McFarlane, whose mother, grandfather, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother all lived there, has returned with her own grandchildren for tea since Potts took over the space.

McFarlane told Fox 13 she remembers visiting the house as a girl, seeing the fireplace her grandfather built during a remodel, the grand piano that filled one room and the swing hanging from a big tree outside. She said the home held her family together across generations.

Now she brings her grandchildren to walk the same halls and see where their grandmother's room was.

Potts, who holds an MBA from the University of Utah, learned to make pies from her grandmother at age 14, according to the business's website. She started baking and never stopped. She described the shop's atmosphere as deliberately unpretentious.

"I tell people we are not the fancy tea shop; we are the warm and cozy tea shop," Potts told Fox 13.

Tea parties seat groups of two to 12 for full table service or 13 to 25 for buffet. The High Tea menu, which includes finger sandwiches, scones, a fruit and cheese plate and dessert, runs $27 per person for full service or $22 for buffet. A lighter Afternoon Tea option runs $20 per person for full service or $16 for buffet. Reservations are available Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with up to two hours allotted per seating.

Beyond tea parties, the shop serves lunch items including English meat pie, soup and mac and cheese. Potts also offers murder mystery tea parties for guests 14 and older. A new partnership with Blacksmith Ice Cream has produced a "Milk and Cookies" flavor featuring Auntie Rae's signature chocolate chip cookie.

Auntie Rae's is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling 801-679-3925.
