Cottonwood Heights and Holladay residents 60 and older can sign up for a free 10-week class covering everything from fall prevention to financial fitness, starting Monday, Aug. 24, at the Taylorsville Senior Center.

The Aging Mastery Program, run by Salt Lake County Aging & Adult Services, meets Mondays from 12:30 to 2 p.m. through Nov. 2. Each week, a guest expert leads a session on a different topic: exercise, sleep, healthy eating, medication management, advance planning, healthy relationships, community engagement, finances and falls prevention.

The curriculum was created by the National Council on Aging, first piloted in 2013 and now offered at hundreds of sites nationwide.

"The overall objective is to deliver the program for free for as many people as possible," NCOA program designer Dr. Susan Stiles said in a May 2022 interview about the program's national reach.

Salt Lake County offers the class through its network of 15 senior centers. The county ran an earlier session at the Sandy Senior Center from June 11 through Aug. 13. The Aug. 24 cohort at Taylorsville is a new round.

The Taylorsville Senior Center, at 4743 Plymouth View Dr., is a joint operation of Taylorsville City and Salt Lake County. It's about a 10-minute drive from central Cottonwood Heights. The city does not have its own dedicated county senior center; Council Member Suzanne Hyland noted in the city's May 2025 newsletter that Cottonwood Heights has the oldest median age in the county and could benefit from more local senior programming.

The nearest county senior center for Holladay residents is the Mt. Olympus Senior Center at 1635 E. Murray Holladay Rd.
