Skyline enters the 5A state golf tournament as the team to beat.

The Eagles, Olympus Titans and Brighton Bengals all qualified for the two-day championship at Bountiful Ridge Golf Course, sweeping the top three spots in Region 6. It is the first time in recent memory all three area programs will compete on the same state stage.

Skyline has won six of the past seven 5A state titles, according to the Deseret News. Last fall the Eagles edged Olympus by a single stroke, 575 to 576, at TalonsCove Golf Course to claim the 2025 crown.

This year's race could be just as close. Eight teams across 5A posted season averages within eight strokes of one another.

Shaffer leads a deep Skyline roster

Perry Shaffer, Skyline's junior, claimed the Region 6 individual title with a 69.3 stroke average. He capped the regular season with a 66 at the final region tournament at The Ridge Golf Course on Sept. 28, leading a Skyline sweep of the top five spots that day. Bodie Green followed with a 67, then Josh Bekker (68), Marcus Davis-Condie (69) and Boone Brown (69).

Skyline's season average of 287.6 led Region 6. Davis-Condie averaged 71.3 for the season, third in the region, and Green averaged 72.1.

Shaffer finished tied for 25th at last year's state tournament with a 149. His jump to Region 6 medalist represents a significant improvement heading into Bountiful Ridge.

Olympus and Brighton within striking distance

Olympus finished the region season at 293.4, just 5.8 strokes behind Skyline. Sophomore Wyatt Biagi was the Titans' top scorer with a 70.7 average, second in Region 6. Josh Neff added a 72.6 average.

Biagi competed at the 2025 state tournament as a freshman, scoring for the Titans in their runner-up finish. Olympus coach Matt Barnes said of Biagi in a Sept. 14 Deseret News feature: "He works really hard on his game and is playing at a high level."

Brighton posted a 293.8 season average, just 0.4 strokes behind Olympus. Braden Dunn led the Bengals at 73.0, followed by Alex Rogers (73.7), Austin Taylor (73.9) and Jack Murray (74.1). The Bengals finished sixth at state last year with a 598.

The statewide picture

West Field High School owns the lowest 5A season average at 285.8. Ethan Luna of West Field led all 5A individuals at 67.0, with Timpview's Nick Miller close behind at 67.1. Seven golfers across 5A averaged in the 60s this season.

The top returning finishers from the 2025 state tournament are Salem Hills' Carson Peterson and Viewmont's Corver Barnes, who tied for third a year ago at 6-under 138.

After last year's one-stroke finish, Skyline coach Kenny James summed up the Eagles' approach at the October 2025 championship: "In the future no one's going to remember who won the region, it's who played the best for two days."

Play begins Monday, Oct. 12 at Bountiful Ridge.
