The Holladay Arts Council secured a $32,700 ZAP grant, one of four funding awards the council will discuss at its Wednesday, Oct. 28 meeting.
The meeting agenda lists $40,800 in total grant funding across four sources: the ZAP grant at $32,700, a GALAA grant at $5,000, a UA&M Creative Aging grant at $2,600 and a Cottonwood Study Group award of $500. Arts and Culture Manager Megan Attermann will present the funding updates at the 5:30 p.m. session at the Holladay Lions Activity Center, 1661 East Murray-Holladay Road.
The grants come as the council's programming reaches new highs. Attermann told the Holladay City Council earlier this year that combined attendance for the Arts Council and Historical Commission topped 25,000 in the previous calendar year, a record. Volunteers logged more than 1,500 hours across more than 40 events, and the two bodies brought in more than $100,000 in donations, grants and scholarships.
Attermann also flagged challenges. State grant support is decreasing, sponsorship revenue is less predictable, and some programs are exceeding capacity while others stretch resources thin, she told the City Council.
Beyond funding, the Oct. 28 agenda turns to upcoming events. The Merry Holladay Market, paired with the city's annual tree lighting, is set for Nov. 30 from 5 to 7 p.m., according to the council's fall events calendar on Instagram. A November Artist of the Month event is scheduled for Nov. 6 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Four Lemons Art on Highland Drive.
The Artist of the Month series moved to Four Lemons after City Hall construction made the previous venue unavailable, Attermann told the City Council. Each event now highlights two artists in a pop-up exhibit format.
Two new concepts round out the agenda. Vice Chair Kimberly England will lead conversation on a Children's Concert proposal and an Art Walk design concept. Attermann has described the Art Walk as a potential partnership with the Holladay Business Advisory Board. No dates or locations are set for either.
Chair Fred Kraut will open the meeting, which includes dinner for council members as a thank-you for their volunteer work this year. Co-Secretary Illa Barrus will lead a reflection on recent events, including Plein Air Holladay and the Artist of the Month series.
In coverage published Oct. 22 by the Holladay Journal, Attermann said the council "loves providing accessible opportunities for our community to engage with art."
The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Residents needing accommodations can call the City Recorder's office at 272-9450 at least three days in advance.
