A rockslide closed two ramps connecting I-215 to I-80 near Parleys Canyon on Sunday evening, Nov. 1.
Access between I-215 and I-80 was blocked after the slide hit the interchange, first reported by ABC4. Both the northbound and southbound exit ramps from I-215 shut down. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) initially estimated the debris would be cleared by 9:12 p.m.
As of ABC4's initial report, access remained closed past that estimate. ABC4 labeled the situation a developing story. It was not clear from available reports whether the ramps had reopened by Monday morning.
KUTV reported large rocks and debris covered part of the freeway near Parleys Canyon. An emergency vehicle was stopped near the debris on the roadway. UDOT urged drivers to use alternate routes.
The I-215/I-80 interchange connects the eastern end of the I-215 belt route to I-80. The southeastern section of I-215 passes near Holladay before reaching I-80, and the belt route serves as a bypass for both I-15 and I-80 in Salt Lake County.
The interchange had already seen planned disruption. UDOT announced overnight ramp closures at the I-80/I-215 interchange on Oct. 26 and Oct. 27 for the I-215 West reconstruction project.
No cause for the rockslide has been identified in available reports.
