Bar and restaurant patrons across Utah can claim a free $10 Lyft credit this Halloween weekend to help get home safely.

The Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS), AAA Utah and the Utah Restaurant Association launched the rideshare credit program Friday, Oct. 30. It runs through Sunday, Nov. 1, as first reported by ABC4.

Patrons at participating bars and restaurants statewide can scan QR codes posted on campaign materials to access the credit. The DPS website also lists a promo code, AAASAFERIDE, that users can enter in the Lyft Pass section of the app's Payment tab.

AAA Utah is funding the initiative. Ben Nichols, a government affairs specialist with AAA Mountain West Group, said patrons can find the QR codes on campaign materials at participating locations across the state, according to KSL.

The push comes alongside a statewide Halloween enforcement blitz. According to DPS, 25 Utah law enforcement agencies are participating, with more than 85 additional DUI enforcement shifts planned for the weekend. At least one DUI checkpoint is also scheduled.

"Don't take that risk this Halloween. If you choose to drink, don't drive," Lt. Zach Randall of the Utah Highway Patrol said, according to ABC4. "Plan ahead for a sober ride. Extra enforcement is happening now."

The numbers behind the campaign are stark. DPS crash data from 2021 through 2025 shows alcohol-related crashes in Utah are 15 times more likely to result in a fatality than other crashes. In 2025, 102 people were killed on Utah roads in crashes involving an impaired driver.

So far in 2026, the state has recorded 12,307 DUI arrests, with an average blood alcohol content of 0.14. Utah's legal limit is 0.05. As of Oct. 27, Utah had seen 549 alcohol-related crashes and a preliminary 42 drug- or alcohol-related fatalities, according to DPS data.

DPS also laid out the financial stakes: a night out with food, drinks and a rideshare might cost around $50, while a DUI can run $20,000 or more when factoring in attorney fees, fines, vehicle impound costs and higher insurance premiums.

Which specific Cottonwood Heights and Holladay establishments are participating has not been confirmed. The credits are available statewide at locations displaying the campaign QR codes through Sunday, Nov. 1.
