Drivers heading up Little Cottonwood Canyon on Monday, Aug. 10, lost access to Snowbird Entry 4 after the Utah Department of Transportation shut the entrance for winter-season improvements on the Bypass Road.
The closure, which began at 7:39 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m., blocks the entry at milepost 10.75 on SR-210. UDOT posted the alert on its Cottonwood Canyons Roads to Recreation page and directed canyon users to reach the Bypass Road via mainline SR-210 at Alta Peruvian instead.
UDOT did not specify what the winter-season improvements entail or whether additional closures are planned.
Another summer of canyon construction
The Aug. 10 closure is the latest in a string of summer construction disruptions on SR-210. On July 20, UDOT closed the same Snowbird Entry 4 overnight for concrete pad construction near the Bypass Road. Separately, a Rocky Mountain Power paving project caused one-way traffic with flaggers through the canyon from July 6 through Aug. 6, running weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. UDOT noted that project was not its own.
For residents who commute through the canyon or plan weekend trips to Snowbird, the pattern is familiar: expect periodic lane restrictions and entry closures through summer 2026 as agencies prepare SR-210 infrastructure for the coming ski season.
