Brighton High School will host the first round of the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) 4A girls tennis state tournament on Thursday, Oct. 8.

The UHSAA released the full 4A bracket on Thursday, Oct. 1. Eight matches in each of five events will be played at Brighton's courts in Cottonwood Heights before the bracket moves to Liberty Park for the round of 16 on Friday, Oct. 9.

The 4A tournament marks the fourth state classification to open at Brighton this fall, according to the Standard-Examiner. The school previously hosted first-round play for the 5A tournament on Sept. 26, the 3A on Oct. 1 and the 6A on Saturday, Oct. 3.

The 4A bracket fills the final slot.

Oct. 8 matchups

Five events fill the Thursday card: first singles, second singles, third singles, first doubles and second doubles. The top eight seeds in each event received first-round byes and will enter the bracket at Liberty Park on Oct. 9.

In first singles, No. 1 seed Sydney Eraso of Orem and No. 2 Lu Lu Shiozawa of Desert Hills lead the field. No. 3 Mara Johncock of Judge Memorial and No. 4 Jane Belcher of East round out the top four, all with byes into the round of 16.

Among the first-round matchups at Brighton, No. 11 Nelliebly Chytraus of Crimson Cliffs faces No. 22 Liza Jorgensen of Murray in first singles. In second singles, No. 10 Tessa Parkinson of Timpanogos draws No. 23 Kloey Cottle of Murray. Third singles features No. 15 Ashlyn Allen of Murray against No. 18 Quynh Nguyen of Judge Memorial.

In first doubles, the top-seeded pair of Ruby Warner and Norah Washburn from Green Canyon leads the field. No. 1 seeds Megan Carlson and Aubrie Pope of Orem top the second doubles draw.

What comes next

Winners at Brighton on Oct. 8 advance to the round of 16 at Liberty Park on Oct. 9, where they will face the seeded players who received byes. The UHSAA has not announced quarterfinal, semifinal or championship dates.
