Brighton's Grace Jaggi swept her 5A state tournament opener 6-0, 6-0 on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Brighton High School. She joins full lineups from Skyline and Olympus in the round of 16 Thursday, Oct. 1, at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City.

Jaggi, seeded No. 11 in first singles, was the only area player who had to take the court Saturday. Every other Brighton, Skyline and Olympus entry earned a first-round bye on the strength of a top-eight seed, according to the Deseret News state tournament bracket.

All three programs will field full five-player lineups in the round of 16.

Skyline: top seeds across the board

The Eagles collected the tournament's highest concentration of seeds among area schools. Sofia Stahle drew the No. 3 seed in first singles and will face No. 14 Thaïs Richard of Maple Mountain. Her sister Olivia Stahle is seeded No. 4 in second singles against No. 13 Annie Tejeda of Hunter.

Harlow Leverenz, the No. 4 seed in third singles, meets No. 13 June Gladwell of Viewmont. In doubles, Elle Scott and Sophie Heimburger hold the No. 2 seed in first doubles against No. 15 Megan Field and Annie Varner of Spanish Fork. Reese Stucki and Riley Leverenz are the tournament's top seed in second doubles and open against No. 16 Kenna Durrant and Naia Veiga of West Field.

Sofia Stahle was ranked No. 12 in the Deseret News midseason power rankings in early September but earned a No. 3 state seed after a strong finish to the regular season. Leverenz was ranked No. 3 in third singles at midseason.

Olympus: five byes, five chances

Samantha Hall, the No. 5 seed in first singles, faces No. 12 Kate Ruffner of Springville. Ava Peay, seeded No. 3 in second singles, draws No. 14 Kennedy Owen of West High School. Annie Olson, the No. 5 seed in third singles, meets No. 12 Leah Fraser of Hunter.

The Titans' first doubles pair of Mikaela McCluskey and Lydia Goodwin is seeded No. 3 against No. 14 Samantha Salea and Brianna Nguyen of Granger. Claire Rasmussen and Andie Ivins, seeded No. 5 in second doubles, face No. 12 Kloe Chapman and Halle Bladen of Salem Hills.

Brighton: Jaggi leads a deep group

Beyond Jaggi's first-singles matchup with No. 6 Lola Sulser of Bountiful, the Bengals send Madison Farley (No. 6 seed, second singles) against No. 11 Kira Mitchell of Fremont and Bella Petersen (No. 7, third singles) against No. 10 Arina Ispolatova of West High School. Farley and Petersen both carried unbeaten records at midseason.

In doubles, Sadie Maxfield and Sophia Lieber (No. 5, first doubles) face No. 12 Anna Richardson and Cambrie Powell of Salem Hills. Mia Aoki and Carlee Child (No. 6, second doubles) draw No. 11 Rorie Stuart and Tessa Ferguson of Fremont.

Defending 5A first singles champion Lyla Bergeson of Woods Cross holds the No. 1 overall seed in the bracket.
