Salt Lake County Aging & Adult Services opened two free wellness programs for adults 60 and older on Sept. 15 and Sept. 16 at senior centers near Cottonwood Heights and Holladay.
The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course began Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Mt. Olympus Senior Center, 1635 E. Murray Holladay Rd. The eight-week course meets Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon through Nov. 4 and covers techniques for managing stress, anxiety, depression and pain. The Mt. Olympus center, near the Holladay-Millcreek border, is listed in the Cottonwood Heights city newsletter as a local senior resource. Enrollment is free. To register, call 385-468-3130.
A StrongerMemory brain-health program started Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Sandy Senior Center, 9310 S. 1300 East, Sandy. The program runs Tuesdays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. through Nov. 17. Its first session runs a full hour; later sessions are 30 minutes each. StrongerMemory uses exercises that target the part of the brain involved in memory retrieval. Salt Lake County offers it to people with a mild cognitive impairment diagnosis and to anyone looking to maintain brain health as they age. The Sandy center is about a 15-minute drive south of Cottonwood Heights. Enrollment is free. To register, call 385-468-3340.
Both programs are listed on the Cottonwood Heights Journal community calendar and run through Salt Lake County Aging & Adult Services. No enrollment caps or registration deadlines are listed.
