Holladay's fall arts season takes shape Wednesday, Sept. 23, when the Arts Council meets to plan a holiday market and a new children's concert.
The 5:30 p.m. meeting at the Holladay Lions Activity Center, 1661 East Murray-Holladay Road, follows the Blue Moon Festival, scheduled for Sept. 19 at Holladay Village Plaza with live music, food trucks and plein air artists. The meeting agenda includes a 15-minute review of the festival, with Council Chair Fred Kraut presiding.
Two fall events anchor the agenda.
The Merry Holladay Market, a pop-up holiday market the council has run in previous years, has a save-the-date of Saturday, Oct. 24, according to the council's Instagram page. The council will also spend 15 minutes shaping the purpose and design of a Children's Concert, a new program first proposed during the council's Feb. 25 budget session. No date or venue for the concert has been announced.
Arts and Culture Manager Megan Attermann is scheduled to deliver updates on the council's budget, its #ShopHolladay initiative, the Artist of the Month program and utility box art installations.
The budget discussion comes as state grant support decreases and sponsorship support has grown less predictable, Attermann reported at a May 21 city council work session. At that session, she said arts and historical programming drew a record 25,000-plus attendees across more than 40 events in the previous calendar year. Volunteers logged more than 1,500 hours, and the programs brought in more than $100,000 in donations, grants and scholarships, according to city council minutes.
Attermann described the Children's Concert at that May session as a program created specifically for children. She also discussed a proposed Art Walk in partnership with the Holladay Business Advisory Board.
"Programs like this are an investment in the social fabric of our community," Attermann said in an August article about the council's summer production of "Fiddler on the Roof."
The Sept. 23 meeting is open to the public. A 30-minute sponsorship basket assembly follows adjournment.
