Olympus Junior High Principal Mike Douglas is urging Holladay parents to accompany their children to Olympus High football games after the school received concerns about a kissing game.

Douglas said the school has heard from families about junior high students attending games without adult supervision and participating in a game "sometimes connected with becoming a 'True Titan,'" according to a message posted on the school's website on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Douglas wrote that kissing games can put students in uncomfortable situations, particularly when someone receives a kiss they did not ask for or want. He asked that a parent or guardian accompany and supervise any junior high student who attends an Olympus High game.

"Consent and personal boundaries always come before school spirit," Douglas wrote.

The principal did not say how many concerns the school received or whether a specific incident prompted the warning.

Douglas also wrote that Olympus Junior's Bulldogs "can safely postpone earning their 'True Titan' status for a few more years." He encouraged students to cheer loudly, wear the colors and support the Titans while leaving the kissing games behind.

Conferences and flu shots Sept. 16–17

The same message laid out two events for Holladay families.

Walk-in parent-teacher conferences run Wednesday, Sept. 16, and Thursday, Sept. 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. both evenings. Teachers will be stationed in the school's Commons and Cafeteria. No appointment is needed.

During those same hours, Community Nursing Services will operate a "Say BOO to the Flu" vaccination clinic on-site. The clinic is open to the public for anyone 6 months and older, according to Community Nursing Services. CNS will bill insurance. Families without coverage pay $14 per child and $35 per adult.

Friday, Sept. 18, is a comp day with no school at Olympus Junior High.

Fall sports fees due

Families with students in soccer or cross country should check the Focus Parent Portal for fall sports fees, which have been added to student accounts. Payments can also be made by calling Financial Secretary Ms. Cannon at 385-646-3602 during school hours.
