Cottonwood Heights and Holladay residents who missed the first round of Salt Lake Temple open house reservations get two more shots. New ticket waves open Tuesday, Sept. 15, and Thursday, Oct. 1, both at 6 p.m. MDT.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the additional releases in a newsroom statement, calling them part of a planned approach to accommodate as many visitors as possible. The first batch of 1 million free reservations were claimed in under 24 hours after the first wave opened Sept. 1, the Deseret News reported.
Church and civic leaders expect 4 to 5 million people to visit Salt Lake City during the six-month open house, which runs April 5 through Oct. 1, 2027. The event will mark the first time in 134 years that the public has been invited inside the Salt Lake Temple.
"We are reaching out to all the world to invite them to come and see what is happening here in Salt Lake City," Dieter F. Uchtdorf, president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, said at a Sept. 1 press event inside the temple. That event also unveiled the celebration's theme: "Rejoice in Christ."
Rosemary K. Chibota, general president of the church's Primary organization, spoke at the same event. She said the open house is about more than touring a building and described it as a chance for visitors to feel closer to Jesus Christ.
The church has not said how many tickets each new wave will include. Whether additional releases beyond Oct. 1 are planned is also unknown.
How to reserve
Tickets can be claimed at TempleSquare.org or through the Temple Square app, available on Apple and Android devices. The church encourages signing up for the Temple Square email list for updates on future releases.
Virtual experiences, including a virtual tour of the temple, will be available for those who cannot travel to Salt Lake City.
