Snowbird's 54th annual Oktoberfest runs every weekend through Oct. 11 in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Six weekends of bratwurst, polka and more than 50 varieties of beer remain for Cottonwood Heights and Holladay residents looking to head up the hill.

The festival, held at Snowbird Center six miles up the canyon, is open noon to 6 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday. It also runs Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day. According to Snowbird's events calendar, the 10-week run started Aug. 8 and wraps up the weekend of Oct. 10–11.

A Deseret News photo gallery published Sept. 5 captured the scene on Sunday, Aug. 30. Attendees covered a hillside listening to local bands. Trapper Mackay and Emery Mackay balanced an egg between their foreheads while dancing polka, competing against other couples to see who could keep it in place the longest.

Nearby, a group crowded around a log for Hammerschlagen, a traditional nail-driving game. Jason Hankins and Heather Henschke danced to polka music. Anna Barry bought a giant pretzel.

Luke Jones tossed a sword to a performer during a juggling act. At the beer tents, Dakota Bauer filled a mug while a bartender topped another beer with whipped cream.

The Oktoberfest Halle tent features live music and German food including bratwurst, sauerkraut and apfelstrudel, according to Utah Agenda. Visitors can choose from more than 50 beer varieties at tents such as the Bohemian, Moab and European, according to Visit Salt Lake's festival guide. An expanded vendor market called Der Marktplatz rotates local sellers each weekend.

For families, the festival offers face painting, inflatable rides, caricature artists and a yo-yo performer.

Beyond the festival grounds, Snowbird's summer activities include the Alpine Slide, Mountain Coaster and the Aerial Tram ride to Hidden Peak. The tram travels 1.6 miles and climbs 2,900 vertical feet in about 10 minutes, according to Ski Utah. Activity passes and tram tickets are available online.

Getting there: Snowbird offers a free shuttle in partnership with Snow Country Limo. Shuttles depart the Park & Ride at 9400 S. Highland Drive every 40 minutes starting at noon on Saturdays and Sundays. Reservations are free and can be booked in advance through the Snow Country Limo booking page. Walk-up riders are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis. No outside food, drinks or alcohol, no pets and no smoking on festival grounds.

The festival continues every Saturday and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m., through Oct. 11 at Snowbird Center.
