Eleven people are vying for the Granite School District Board seat that represents Holladay and Millcreek, and the board is interviewing all of them Tuesday, Aug. 25, in a public meeting that starts at 4 p.m.

The District One vacancy opened after board member Julie Jackson announced on Instagram on Aug. 5 that she won her primary for the Utah House of Representatives and will resign from the board effective Dec. 31. Jackson, in her sixth year representing Precinct 1, asked the board to appoint her replacement quickly so the new member has time to prepare before taking over in January 2027.

"… I'm anxious to make sure the next Precinct 1 board member is set up for success," Jackson wrote. "Kids deserve the very best representatives."

The board's public agenda lists the candidates in interview order, each getting a 15-minute slot:

No vote is on Tuesday's agenda. The board is expected to appoint Jackson's replacement at a subsequent meeting, though the district has not publicly confirmed the date.

District One covers families whose children attend Olympus High School, Skyline High School and their feeder schools. The appointee will step into a board that Jackson described in May as aiming to raise graduation rates and English and math literacy each by 1 percentage point.

Board President Nicole McDermott is leading the interview process. The meeting is open to the public and accessible through the district's agenda system. Residents who want to watch the board's eventual appointment vote should monitor the district's postings for the next scheduled meeting.
